GSM stands
for Global System for Mobile Communications, which is the mobile phone network
as we know it. It is a worldwide standard, operating in more than 170 countries
and supports not just voice communications but also text messaging and data
transfer.
GSM now provides a viable cost alternative to
traditional 'land-lines' largely due to the quality of service, coverage and
value for money provided.
Due to the modular low power techniques
employed by a range of our telemetry outstations. We are able to offer a
telemetry outstation with dual band (Orange, O2 or Vodaphone) GSM
communication. What's more is it need have no effect on the normal operation
of the outstation. As detailed below:-
Battery Powered GSM
always available feature from Dynamic Logic
Dynamic Logic, exclusively distributed by ITT Water & Wastewater
Ltd, has released their latest feature for low power monitoring applications,
such as Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO).
The feature is the 'always
available GSM' option which is compatible with the D7000 telemetry
outstation series.
Obviously with a mains powered site this feature has
always been available as the GSM can be permanently powered. However, with low
power applications a method used by Dynamic Logic and other telemetry suppliers
has been to use a window powered system for master-stations to poll the remote
device.
Although this approach works it has proven to be inflexible as
remote units can only be contacted within the predefined window when the GSM is
powered within the device typically this could be no more that an hour a day.
Our low power compact GSM module eliminates the need for window
powering. Due to its low power operation mode, the D7000 outstation can operate
as if the unit was permanently powered from a DC source or mains supply when
really being battery powered. Making it remotely accessible 24hrs a day!
The GSM module fits within the D714x, D715x and D716x series of
outstations. The GSM module has three modes of operation:-
| Sleep
Mode |
The GSM outstation keeps connected to the service provider
network by use of the PING feature. This enables the user to contact the
outstation at anytime as though it was a PSTN connection. Based on the
D7000s internal D cell batteries the unit will operate for
over 1.5 years on single set!
